GILLET, Louis Henri Born 1891 Nancy, died 1970 Saint-Rémy France. Bow maker, apprenticed in Mirecourt and subsequently employed by Thibouville-Lamy 1906-1911. Military service during the First World War, after which he joined Laberte in Mirecourt. Established independently in modest circumstances in Châlon-sur-Saône from c.1926. Worked for E. Sartory 1934-1946, adopting his style effectively. After Sartory’s death in 1946 continued working for his son-in-law G. Dupuy. From c.1951 to 1960 he was again independent, and some of his best and most richly mounted bows come from this period. Branded: L. GILLET or H.L.G. [Millant/Raffin]
