Violin, circle of Antonio Pelizon
This beautiful Italian violin was made in the mid-19th century in Gorizia, in the North East of Italy next to Slovenia. The Pelizon family was the first to settle in the city as a violin maker and made violins from the late 18th century to the 19th century.
This violin is very typical of Antonio Pelizon, the first member of this violin maker family. The violin has a fairly square outline and is finished with a beautiful, light golden yellow to red varnish with a beautiful pattern. While we couldn't determine if it was Antonio Pelizon I, the character of this violin suggests it was made by someone close to the family.
The violin has a deep round sound and this very warm sound that continues to sound warm up to the high register. this is something special of real old Italian violins.
For this price range it is almost impossible to find an authentic old Italian violin. Yet this violin has become very affordable, thanks to the combination of "the circle of" and the fact that the violin was made in the mid-1800s rather than the beginning.
The violin comes with the certificate of authenticity from Florian Leonard, a world renowned old Italian violin expert.

Antonio Pelizon I

Violin maker
(1763 – 1850)

Antonio Pelizon was the first in a family of violin makers who worked on the border of what is now Slovenia in the 18th and 19th centuries. His original workmanship is unpretentious and shows great care, especially the scrolls. F-holes are rather upright and open, and the varnish is usually thin and golden-yellow in hue. Pelizon's four sons succeeded him in the trade.
